Web design in Prestwich

I'm a web developer in Prestwich, and I build websites starting at around £600 - or £300 if you're a charity, co-op, artist, vegan business, or otherwise sustainable business. I live round here, so if you'd like to meet in person we can sit down at your place, mine, or somewhere local - I'll have a Shindigger at Cuckoo if you're picking the venue.

The kind of sites I build are fast, accessible, and laid out so that whoever lands on them from a Google search can find what they came for in a few seconds. That sounds obvious, but it's surprising how many local business websites bury the phone number three clicks deep, or hide the menu in a PDF, or take six seconds to load on a phone.

How it works

  1. We meet to talk through what you actually need (free, no obligation)
  2. I send you a written proposal with a breakdown of what each bit costs
  3. I build the site - usually a day or two for a simple one
  4. You get a training session, the full source code, and instructions for everything
  5. You can host with me, or take it elsewhere - your choice

Most of the time, the thing that actually slows the project down is content - photos, words, opening hours - rather than the build itself. If you want help with that, my free guides and videos walk through it, or I can put you in touch with a copywriter.

If you're after something more involved - a custom design, a booking system, a customer database, anything beyond a brochure site - I can help with that too. I can source designers, turn paid-for design templates into working sites, or build custom functionality with Ruby on Rails or other open source tools. Have a look at my software development services for the bigger stuff.

A few sites I've built around Manchester

Restaurants and cafes: This & That, Sally's Bakes, Avo Coffee

Services: Renegade Solar, the solar panel installers, and Blue Pits, the housing charity

Community: Vegan Prestwich (which my wife and I run) and Crumpsall Folk Club

Creative: Button Kin Games

These vary a lot in shape and complexity - some are simple brochure sites, others have booking systems or full product catalogues - but the underlying principle is the same: build it so it loads fast, ranks well, and the owner can edit it.

Transparent pricing

I charge a flat hourly rate on every job, and I'll tell you exactly what each hour covers. No hidden retainers, no surprise add-ons, no "starting at" pricing that quietly doubles by the time you've signed.

For a proper estimate, the price calculator will give you a figure based on what you actually need. Rough ballpark:

  • Basic website: £600-800
  • Website with custom design: £1,400-1,600
  • Complex functionality: £2,000+

Hosting starts at £10/month, or £40/month with ongoing support and personal help working through my free marketing guides and videos. You can also host on Cloudflare Pages for nothing, since you'll own all the code.

Charities, co-ops, artists, musicians, vegan businesses, and renewable energy companies get 50% off the build price.

A few things that might matter to you

I'm local, so we can actually meet in person for the training and any follow-ups - which I think makes a real difference, especially when you're getting your head around editing a site for the first time. Building useful local relationships round Prestwich is part of why I do this.

You'll own the site. The full source code is yours, the hosting instructions are yours, the editing tools are yours. That's the opposite of how a lot of agencies work, where you're effectively renting access to your own website and they have you over a barrel if you ever want to leave.

I've been doing this a while and have results to point at. As one example: I helped Renegade Solar move off Wix and they now rank #1 on Google for "solar panel installer Prestwich" and similar searches in their area, with a much faster site and a much lower hosting bill than they used to have.

And I'm building on open tools rather than someone's proprietary platform, which means you can do whatever you want with the site rather than running into "Wix doesn't let you do that" or "you'd need to upgrade for that feature".
